Amazing Albarino

Amazing Albarino

Here at Red Bridge we've long been amazed that Spain's most famous white wine has yet to really take off here in NZ - especially given that it is the closest wine profile wise to our most famous export of all things vinous ....Sauvignon Blanc.
However we are pleased to note that of late it seems to be having a higher profile, and given how well our new portfolio of Albarino wines has been selling for some of our restaurant clients we felt it was time to showcase it here as well.
Almost exclusively grown in the Rias Baixas D.O. in the province of Galicia in Spain's far northwest corner, this grape produces amazing crisp, well textured wines with great acid balance, full of flavours of peach and citrus with mineral characteristics, and often a crisp salinity provided by vine age and the proximity of the sea.
Under traditional production it is made in stainless steel however it can also be aged in oak barriques and is also often aged on the lees for an extended period to provide a width and creaminess not found in the younger wines.
With a few Albarino grapes now planted here in NZ - primarily in Gisborne and Marlborough (although the quantities are very small), Albarino wines are starting to make a slightly more noticeable appearance - particularly on restaurant wine lists as the wine's characteristics make it a perfect match for all things seafood based in particular..

To help you explore the world of Albarino we have put together an Albarino 3 wine  selection to showcase the different production methods that can be used (Stainless, Barrique and Lees aged)  and also reduced the prices of our Albarino wines for a very short period of time.
